Irving Scott

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Irving George Scott on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the age of 84. Irving passed away peacefully in the ICU Unit at Red Deer Regional Hospital, surrounded by family and nurses.

Born and raised in Melfort, SK, Irving grew up alongside his parents, Irving and Janet, and his six siblings: Chester, Clayton, Verne, Irene, Audrey, and Shirley. It was in Melfort that he developed the strong work ethic, resilience, and deep appreciation for the outdoors that would shape his entire life.

Irving was known for his larger than life personality, sharp wit, and unwavering generosity. He excelled as an accomplished trap shooter, forming lifelong friendships at competitions across Western Canada and the United States. He loved hunting, combining during harvest in the Highland Park, Alberta area, and the unforgettable tradition of Christmas snowmachining—memories that will forever echo in the hearts of those who shared them.

In January 1962, Irving joined the RCMP, beginning a chapter that took him from training in Regina to his first postings in Hudson Hope and Fort St. John, BC. Fort St. John is where he met the love of his life, Alice Tyrkus. They married in 1971 and shared over 55 inseparable years together. The couple remained in Fort St. John until 2001, when they moved to Lacombe, Alberta.

Irving built a remarkable 35 year career in the oilfield across BC and Alberta, ultimately retiring at age 65 as Superintendent of Production with Shining Bank. His leadership, integrity, and dedication earned him deep respect throughout the industry.

Irving is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Alice; his sister, Shirley Geddes (Dave) of Prince Albert, SK; his sister in law Olga Tyrkus – Kelowna, BC; his brother in law Paul Tyrkus – Richmond, BC; and many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. His presence, humour, and kindness enriched countless lives.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irving’s memory to the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation (direct to the ICU Unit) or the Alberta Cancer Foundation (direct to PFAP Red Deer). The compassion and support provided by these remarkable teams will never be forgotten.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Edmonton Gun Club on Saturday, July 25th, 2026 at 1:30 PM. Friends and family are invited to attend and honour Irving’s extraordinary life.

Though he is no longer with us, his legacy continues to live on in the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
