Passed in Red Deer, Alberta
Jaime Munoz

Jaime Francisco Muñoz, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 21, 2026, in Red Deer, Alberta, at the age of 80.

Jaime will be deeply and lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Maria Eugenia Muñoz; his children, Maria St. Pierre, Paulina Cunningham (Curtis), and Jaime Muñoz (Paula); and his grandchildren, Isabel, Jenna (Ethan), Benjamin, Bergen (Jeannelle), Julia, Nicolas and Alicia; his siblings, Luis Muñoz (Silvia), Nino Muñoz (Poli), Patricio Muñoz (Patricia) and Angelica Muñoz. He also leaves behind many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews in Canada, the USA, and Chile, all of whom he loved dearly and remained closely connected to throughout his life.

He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Sara Fajardo and Juan Muñoz; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marta Guzman and Manuel Achondo; his cousin Tunina Muñoz; and his brothers-in-law Ignacio Tejeda and Manuel Achondo.

Born on October 1, 1945, in Barrancas, San Antonio, Chile, Jaime was raised in a loving home alongside his mother, father and four siblings, surrounded by the warmth and closeness of family that would shape the rest of his life. He treasured his relationships with his siblings, holding them close no matter the distance. At 19 years old, he left home to begin building his future. His career eventually led him to Banco del Estado in Santiago, Chile, where he met the love of his life, Maria Eugenia. Jaime’s persistence and charm won her heart. They married two years later, in 1970, and began building a life together that would span 56 beautiful years. They were inseparable, working side by side as they welcomed three children and built a home rooted in love.

In 1978, Jaime and Maria immigrated to Canada with their three young children, settling in Red Deer, Alberta. They worked side by side for more than 30 years at the Red Deer Regional Hospital until retiring.

Jaime made each of his children feel deeply loved and supported, encouraging them to pursue their passions and believe in themselves. He was especially proud that all three earned post-secondary degrees, one of his greatest accomplishments.

His greatest joy was being “Tata” to his seven grandchildren. He was their proudest and loudest supporter, known for his unmistakable whistle from the stands and his humorous stories and sayings. He exemplified the kind of person who lived fully and without regrets.

In retirement, Jaime and Maria embraced life fully, travelling yearly to Chile to visit family, taking many trips to Las Vegas, and discovering a love for cruises that allowed them to explore the world together. He will be remembered for his joy in the simple things like feeding the birds in his back yard, listening to them sing, playing his accordion, listening to classical music, and family gatherings. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Parish in Red Deer, AB on March 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon to follow.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Red Deer Hospice Society for their compassionate care. Those wishing to honour Jaime’s memory may make a donation in his name to the Red Deer Hospice Society.

Tio Jamie,

You were so special to me. Some of my best memories are at your house, playing with Jamie Jr., laughing, running around, and just having the best time. Being there always felt fun and full of life.

I’ll never forget all of us packed into the cars — three different cars, with walkie-talkies — traveling through Banff, driving to Kelowna, going to Lake Louise. There were so many of those trips. As a kid, it was just pure fun. Being together, all the cousins and aunts, feeling like we were one big team on an adventure.

Those memories will never leave me. I’m so grateful you were my uncle. I love you so much, and you will never be forgotten.

❤️🙏🏼 Ninito

While many of the details noted in this beautiful testament were unknown to me, like his ability to play the accordion, the references to Mr. Munoz’s (how I will always view him) fierce love and fidelity to his family rings so true. And what a family it is! He truly could feel so proud.

I’m profoundly grateful to have become classmates and close friend to Maria (Junior) for many cherished years, and especially in those early years to have directly witnessed the joy, love and guidance provided by this smiling, kind, caring and welcoming couple. I can only imagine the heartbreak. 💔

Rest in peace, may your faith and commitment in being a good and honourable man, expressing your faith in the love you shared, be rewarded fully.

To Mrs. Munoz, dear, dear Maria, Paulina, Jaime, and the entire family, my deepest sympathies on your profound loss.

Respectfully, Pauline Mousseau
