Janet Oberten
It is with extremely heavy hearts that the family of Janet Oberten (nee Adamson) announce her passing on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 in High River, Alberta at the age of 65.
Janet was born on March 5, 1960 in Oakville, Ontario where she lived with her loving family, this is also where she started her life long friendship with her best friend of 60 years Holly Sullivan who was considered a sister to Janet. She married and started her family with her husband and gave birth to 2 incredible daughters. They all moved to Alberta in the early 90’s to start a new life in High River. In 2001 she met her second husband Rick Oberten and they married in 2005 to begin the next chapter of her life including combined family with Rick’s.
Janet is lovingly remembered by her loving husband, Rick; her daughters, Michelle (Spencer) and Maude (Rab); Rick’s children, LeeAnn and Scott (Chelsea); her loving and adoring grandchildren, BreeAnna, Ethan, Skyler, Audrey and Bentley. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Gail, Debbie (Steve), William (Jenny) Laura (Scott)and David (Kim); as well as many cousins, nephews and nieces in Ontario and Alberta; as well as many who loved her, befriended her, and worked with her.
Janet was predeceased by her dad, Harold; mom, Noreen (nee Elsby); older brother, Brian; older sister, Dianne and brother-in-law Bill.
A sincere and heartfelt thank you from Rick and all the family goes out to the incredible team at A.E. Child’s Cancer Clinic on floor 6, High River Cancer Clinic, Foothills Advocacy in Motion and everyone there who supported her. Upmost the incredible team of nurses and doctors on floor 3 at the High River hospital, who made her comfortable till she left this crazy world, they are true angels for compassion, caring, and understanding.
