Joan Headley

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Headley, who passed away on January 31, 2026, in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 74. Joan was born on January 15, 1952, in St. Michael, Barbados.
Joan had a passion for gardening, writing, and her faith in the Lord. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Claire (Greg) Griffith, great-niece and bonus daughter, Diannika Barker, granddaughter Arielle Griffith; step grandson, Kai Best- Griffith; Gregβs mother and sister, Mary and Tanya Stuart; Greg's brother, Mark Stuart; brothers Anthony (Adina), Leroy, and Paul; sisters Angela, Patricia, Alison, Elizabeth, and Diana; Aunt Roseanna Walcott; Uncle Hilary Garnett; Marcelle Roach, Lucy Popo, Otha; cousins Hazel Fench, Elizabeth James, Theresa Henry, Charlie Headley, Adrian Headley, Julietta William, and Kenny; nephews Ryan and Rommel (Latoya); great-nieces Latanya and Latavia as well as relatives, Juette Phillips, Sandra Gill, Janelle Greenidge, Randolph Smith, Ronald James. A Funeral Service will be held at Showers of Blessings Apostolic Church, located at 3915 34 Street NE, Calgary, AB, on February 17, 2026, at 10:00 AM.
Joan will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. May she rest in peace.

I met Joan Headley a Cletical Officer and a member of the union From that moment we worked as a team and brought many changes at the Hospital. At that time QEH had 2 ,500 employees with over 20 departments. Joan , along with Hyacinth Grimes Pam Sealy Vivian Sealy shaped that Hospital Joan was promoted to work in the Procurement Department. Through strict practices and Joan was able to put strict protocols in place ,reducing wastage. Joan served on many committees. Executive National Council, Shop Steward Council, women's Affairs Committee to name a few. When the Council tried to dismiss Bro Goddard , General Secretary, I remember Joan came to the office and told me to bring all the files on the issue and close the door. It brought to mind when Elijah told the widow to go fill the jars and close the door. End result Bro. Goddard was returned to work. Joan had many talents. She loved singing., lecturing at courses, representing the union on overseas conferences Dearest to my heart, is her willingness and readiness to help whenever the need arises. The Anglican Churches had a competition for the children. My daughter entered
She wrote a short essay that receive high remarks. The song she submitted was the Alerbaster Box. Joan took her under her wings and trained her Ramona placed 2nd. To Claire and family, continue to be strong . Joan will always be in hearts π

I am so sad hearing of the passing of my friend for over 62 years.
Joan was always full of energy and loves laughing.
When she heard I was ill recently she research every herb and their healing properties and sent them to me along with prayers for my quick recovery.
Joan you will always be remember fir your love and kindness.
Until we meet again.

Although I never had the opportunity to meet Joan in person, I met her online during our midday prayer time.
She was truly a source of encouragement to all of us.
Joan loved God's word and always encouraged us.
