In Memory
John "Bud" Richard McBride

Bud McBride passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the age of 96.
He was born to humble beginnings July 20th, 1928, in a grainery converted into a family home on a section of land south of Benalto. Bud was the oldest of 5 children of Jack and Lillian McBride and grew up clearing the section of land of trees and developing the family farm. His mother, Lillian, named the farm Riverbend and the family eventually took a strong interest in the Angus breed.
Bud’s great passion was for Angus cattle making many contributions to the beef industry throughout his lifetime and was known as a fine cattleman. He enjoyed sharing his love of livestock and gave freely of his time as a 4-H leader giving presentations to clubs throughout Alberta. Bud showed cattle internationally and was often asked to judge at various cattle shows including the Toronto Winter Fair. He was inducted into the Alberta Angus Hall of Fame in 2007. Bud was featured in several film presentations including one done by the American Angus Association - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8Zde1LaS8E.
Bud married the love of his life, Barbara Clucas, his diamond from Diamond Valley, in 1959 and they recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Together they built their farm and cattle herd, traveled extensively on Angus and Limousin cattle business, accompanied the Queen Mother at the World Angus Forum, and served at their local church for many years as they raised their family at Riverbend.
Bud was highly regarded in his skill of operating equipment as well as being an accomplished private pilot.
He appreciated and lived the quote: “Purpose is the reason for the journey, passion is the fire that lights the way.”
He loved life, his family, the cattle business, his Lord and Savior, and he devotedly cared for his wife Barbara, in her infirmity.
Bud has gone home to glory, and we rejoice in that. John 3:16.
He was predeceased by his father and mother, Jack and Lillian; and his brother, Jim.
The family would like to thank Connie and the private caregivers as well as the care providers at Bethany Care Center in Sylvan Lake for their compassionate care and support for Bud over the past few years.
Contributions can be made to the memorial fund at Samaritans Purse Canada, 20 Hopewell Way NE Calgary, AB T3J 5H5.
