John Carmichael

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Andrew Carmichael. He passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, surrounded by family and his dog, Louie. John was born in St. Catharines, Ontario, to his loving parents, Walter and Elizabeth Carmichael.

John was a devoted husband and father. He married Debbie on May 10, 1975, and together they built a beautiful life and raised three daughters. He was predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth and Walter; and his sister, Rene (Dominic). He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Debbie; and his children, Lindsay, Robin, and Julie (Dyllan).

John found joy in spending time by the lake, fly fishing, boating, travelling, and, above all, woodworking in his workshop while listening to music. His love for dogs was enduring, and over the years he cherished many canine companions. His life reflected kindness, dedication, courage, wisdom, and strength. He leaves behind a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

In keeping with John’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. Family and friends are invited to honour his memory in their own meaningful way.

I remember your mom and dad’s first date. I was probably 12 and your mom was a bit nervous. She had me answer the door when your dad knocked and then I had to run down the hall to tell your mom what he was wearing. She had two outfits ready depending on my observation. She wore jeans and a t-shirt… to match your dad’s relaxed style. No fancy date. I remember your dad was very cool( from a younger sisters perspective) and always had a great sense of humour. We came out to Airdrie two years ago, and had a great visit with your mom and dad. We played euchre with Robin and your parents, and it felt a little like stepping back in time… another nice memory. We’re so sorry for your loss, a very nice man, he will be missed.
