In Memory

John (Jack) David Tupper

April 28th, 1931 - July 20th, 2024
John (Jack) David Tupper

John (Jack) David Tupper was born in 1931 on the family farm at West River Station, Pictou County, Nova Scotia, to Lawrence and Mildred (nee McNutt) Tupper. In 1936, the family moved to Hopewell, NS, where Jack attended elementary school, eventually commuting to New Glasgow for high school.

Upon completion of his schooling, Jack lived in Montreal before enlisting in the RCAF in 1951. He completed his pilot’s training in 1952 in Claresholm, Alberta.

During his time in Alberta, Jack met Georgina Little, beginning a love story that spanned 66 years. They married in 1953 and spent 35 years at various postings across Canada, finally retiring in Trenton, ON, where they built a beautiful home and enjoyed over a decade in the community of Smithfield, Ontario.

In 1997, the allure of grandchildren in Alberta proved too strong and they moved to Pigeon Lake where they lived for 21 years, enjoying the lake community and time with family and friends.

After Georgie’s passing in 2018, Jack moved to Sundre, AB, where, with his kind and friendly ways, he quickly became a welcome part of the community.

Jack passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024, surrounded by family. We are grateful to the staff of Sundre Hospital for their kind and compassionate care through his last few weeks.

Jack is survived by daughter, Karen (Julian), Stuart (Sarah); grandchildren, Colin, Ian, Abbie and Erica; sister, Joanne and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by wife, Georgina, and sons, Kenneth and Gary.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Sundre Legion on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at 2:00pm. If family and friends so desire, memorial tributes can be made to the Legion Poppy Fund (https://www.legion.ca/remembrance/donate-to-the-poppy-fund)

The Garvey family were SO lucky to live across the street from the Tuppers, back in their Lynwood Village days. Our parents had a lot of fun together - but the most fun of all were the evenings we would go out to play after dinner, and Jack would be part of all the kid games. Hide and Seek, tag, whatever the game was, he was out there entertaining the kids. How many hours we spent, having fun with Mr. Tupper. His sparkle will always remain in my memories. I know that sparkle lasted him throughout his whole life - tough times (and I know there were many losses) and good times (also many - and often conjured up by Jack himself). He was a force of love and positivity. I’m sorry to hear about his passing; sincere condolences. I know you were blessed by being part of his life and have many joyful memories of both Jack and Georgie to comfort you.

We always enjoyed your parents and they were special friends of my parents. I remember your dad playing the bagpipes on the cat. Condolences to you and Stuart and families.

After one retires from a lifetime of working, you have time to think back to the persons you worked with and how they remain in your thoughts. Jack was the one co-worker that has always meant so much to me. He was a leader, mentor, supporter and great friend to me while we worked together in Brighton and for many years beyond. He had the most fun sayings, like if it was a cold day, he would say "It just makes you walk faster", then his versions of the Building Code were known as "Tupper-isms". And he had a nickname for everyone, some too descriptive to mention. LOL His writing was a scribble, but I could still read his well-worded letters. Jack will be missed by many, his family meant so much to him. I know he will be in heaven now, raising a glass of wine with Georgie. Hugs, Becky

Jack was a lot of fun. Quick with a laugh and always a good story to tell. He was always interested in new conversations and gave his undivided attention to the next story teller. He was a gentleman and was well respected and loved by family and friends. He will be missed.

Uncle Jack lived with purpose and had a great appreciation for simple daily pleasures.
His life experiences supplied a stream of events and colorful characters to enrich his numerous and engaging stories - often enhanced with a glass or two of wine.
His family, both immediate and extended, meant the world to him.
Uncle Jack loved life and lived it to the fullest.
He enjoyed get togethers, crossword puzzles, a good book, an occasional glass of wine and hearing and telling a good joke.
His hobbies (cooking, woodworking, stained glass & gardening, to name a few) were done with great attention to detail and resulted in many beautiful creations.
He easily struck up conversations with everyone he met and was always making new friends.
He made time for everyone and when it was your time you had his undivided attention.
The world feels somehow less without Uncle Jack a part of it.
Much loved and forever missed.

Jack Tupper was a large part of my military life from 1967-1995 as a supervisor, teacher, colleague and friend. His positive attitude and great sense of humour enhanced my life in many ways. He always had my respect and gratitude for his adept managerial style and leadership particularly during UN duties in Egypt 1974 for some highs and lows occasioned by the events of the time. We will miss him as he unites with his beloved Georgie. Per Ardua Ad Astra.

Jack enjoyed his full life even after Georgie's passing. His travels to family and frends were legendary and we will miss him a lot. His quick wit and past stories siting around with a glass of wine were always enjoyable.I think the speed of his illness may have been welcome to him. He was a great friend. Thank you Karen for keeping us informed. J&M.
