My walking buddy Sandi Chalmers, would speak about her uncle as we wound about the trails.
Elder care is not always easy, but often creates a deep bond. He kept her on her toes and she came to enjoy it, I think. Having someone in service at the right time in a person’s life, can ease so much discomfort, cultivate joy, and show us what life is. Many in this world pass with no one to love or assist them. My friend has a big heart. It must be a family trait he possessed too.
I have admiration for people who live on the land and know how to grow things. It is a truly human experience to be with nature. So may you harvest a great yield beyond this sunset, Mr. Smallwood.
