In Memory
John "Wayne" Fletcher
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Wayne on Sunday, Oct 6, 2024 in Calgary at the age of 77, with family by his side.
Wayne was born on Sept 9, 1947 and became the 4th generation on the Fletcher Farm which was homesteaded by his great grandpa in 1892. This is where he spent his entire life farming with first his dad and now his son Kevin.
Wayne was an avid 4-H member, supporter and leader, in 1998 he received his 20 year leader award. He was one of the first people to import full French Charolais cattle into Canada in the 1960’s and enjoyed telling his many stories of trips to Agribition. Wayne met Evelyn Cole in the summer of 1975 and they were married on June 12, 1976 in Calgary. Wayne brought Evelyn home to the farm where they raised their children and continued farming until his passing.
Besides farming Wayne enjoyed his weekly Friday morning coffee visits, having lunch with friends and a good bull sale. He enjoyed visiting with his neighbours and friends and anyone he ran into. Later on him and Ev travelled to different parts of the world sharing many adventures with friends. But his most loved past time was going to all of his grandchildren’s sports, 4-H events and rodeos. As much as his favourite thing to do was work he was never to busy to spend quality time with each of his grandkids. He enjoyed teaching them the ins and outs on the farm and how important hard work is and the buttons on his shirt would pop with pride every time he talked about one of them. Even in the last few days he was determined not to miss one of their events.
Wayne will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife Evelyn of 48 years, his two children Kelli (Joey) Becker and Kevin (Crystal) Fletcher, and his 6 favourite people his grandchildren, Jaci, Wyatt, Ivy, Miley, Levi and Presley. As well as many nieces and nephews. Wayne was predeceased by his parents John and Ivy Fletcher, brother Bud Laveck and sister in law Enola and sister Kay and brother in law Wally Larkam.
We would like to thank all of our friends, family and neighbours for all of their help, support and meals over the last weeks, as well as all of the wonderful Drs. and nurses on Unit 36 of the Foothills hospital for going above and beyond for our family. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Balzac 4-H Beef Club, or an organization of your choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Crossfield Community Centre on Monday, October 14, 2024 at 2:00 PM. At the request of the family, please wear casual clothing like Wayne wore everyday.

It’s with our deepest condolences of the loss of Wayne.
Wayne had a short stature, but he was larger than life itself. He always made time to have a chat whether at a branding, UFA, Ranch rodeo, or a bill sale.
First time I met Wayne was at hwy 21 Ranch rodeo, I was on Kevin’s team he walked up to me introduced himself and bought me a beer.
The hole that Wayne is leaving will be hard to fill. But the great man he is and was, that hole will be filled with the love and stories you have of him, his memory will live on.
With love
