In Memory

Julie Anne Tkachuk (nee Walaschuk)

August 5th, 1951 - June 9th, 2025
Julie Anne Tkachuk (nee Walaschuk)

It is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to our beloved Mom aka “Ma”, Baba, Sister, Auntie, Cousin and Friend who passed away on June 9th, 2025, at the age of 73 years.

She was born to Boris and Olga Walaschuk on August 5, 1951, in Edmonton, AB.

Julie moved to Airdrie in 1986 with her family and shortly after began her career in the banking industry. She retired in 2016 from the Scotiabank to take care of her grandson.

Julie whole-heartedly loved her children – Tammy (Josh) and Tracy (Chad), and adored her three grandchildren who fondly called her Baba – Kolton, Brooklyn and Kennedy.

Julie was well loved by her family, friends and many members of the Airdrie community. Upon her passing, her children were overwhelmed with the huge response of support and love by all of those around them who were dismayed at the loss of such a special person.

Julie loved to connect with those closest to her, she was well known for being on top of all the current Airdrie events and never forgot a birthday or anniversary with a card. She prided herself on being able to go anywhere in Airdrie and running into someone she knew.

She loved to be with her kids and grandchildren more than anything. She also loved listening to music, being in the garden with her grandchildren, dancing, singing karaoke, and enjoying wings and coconut shrimp. She loved going on drives to the mountains and being by the ocean.

Julie will forever be remembered and missed by her children and grandchildren; as well as her siblings, Judy (Alden), and Derek (Corrie); sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

Julie was predeceased by parents, Olga and Boris; and her sister, Sandy.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Abrio Place who made the last year of her life one of the best. Additionally, all of the AHS staff on Unit 49 at the PLC, who took care of her in such an amazing way during her final days.

Julie will be forever in our hearts and always in our memory.

A Celebration of Life will be held  at 525 Restaurant at the Woodside Golf Course on July 31, 2024 from 1:00 - 4'00 PM.

In lieu of flowers please feel free to donate to: Abrio Place - https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/73165 or Drive Happiness https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/50756

I was very shocked and sad to hear of Julie's passing. Your obituary speaks to the character that we all knew and loved. I was just asking about Julie last week at the Woodside Seniors Club. I had not realized she moved to Abrio. The City of Airdrie was a much better place with her smiling face. Whether is was the bank, the rodeo or other community events, Julie always had a love for life. She shared her families journey every time I saw her. She would take our Scoops to Edmonton when she visited her Mom and connected me with a beautiful lady that made us a quilt full of Scoop Quotes. Julie was an incredible human being that the world needs more of! My deepest sympathies !!

Julie Anne is one of our first clients in Drive Happiness Airdrie. Every time I spoke with her on the phone, we always had something to share and laugh about. I love listening to her because she has lots of experience that I can get for life teachings. She said, "Don't work too hard, give time for yourself", and this one is my favorite, " A woman's work is never done". It's so sad but your memories and teachings will stay here within our hearts. Have a good night my friend.

Sorry for your loss, I met Julie only a couple of times on the way to her medical appointments, she left an indistinguishable impression on me and telling me what she had gone through. My condolences to the family,

Julie,
You were a wonderful grandmother and it was always obvious when your grandchildren visited you at Abrio Place. There was always laughter and they loved you so much. It was so nice that you had a chance to visit Fernie before your sudden passing.
I loved our conversation when we met in the hallway and walked to our rooms. You were a special lady and we will all miss you at Abrio Place.

We are so deeply sorry for your loss. Your Mom was a lovely lady who raised two incredible women. Her reflection will be seen and her legacy will live on in her two beautiful daughters and grandchildren. Losing your Mom invokes a sadness and grief like none other. One day you will meet again, however for now your heartbreak is indescribable. We will be praying for you.

Julie was so kind and sweet. We shared a lot of things together; like having babies in Ft McMurray. We tried to see each other as often as possible or talked on the phone. She would keep me up to date about her family growing up. I will truly miss the wonderful friendship that we had. Rest in peace my beautiful friend ❤️
