Karen Anne (Ruether) Duchesne

Karen
passed away peacefully at Didsbury Hospital, with family and friends by her
side, after a brief illness.
Karen was
born at St. Therese Hospital in Tisdale, Sask., the eldest of 7 children born
to Garland and Muriel Ruether.She was raised on their family farm 4 miles west
of Bjorkdale, Sk.
She began
her schooling in a one room school house at SunnyBrow and finished her
education in Bjorkdale.
She had a
full and interesting life, having the opportunity to live in many places,
including Thompson and Winnipeg, MB, Meadow Lake and Weekes, SK, Hinton,
Edmonton, Calgary, Williston, ND, as well as travelling and living in Lima,
Peru, Belize City, Belize, Amman, Jordan and lastly in Cremona, which was her home
for over 30 years. She had an eventful life and gained many friends and
acquaintances, along the way.
She had many interests, but to name a few: she owned and ran a restaurant, attended barbering school in Edmonton, worked as a onflight courier and also sold real estate in Calgary, was a very proud legion member and worked for many years as a trusted and cherished employee at the Cremona Hotel.
She will
be dearly missed by her family:
Sisters, Corliss (John) Kozun and Glenys (Nelson) Currey; brothers, Colin (Bev) Ruether and Murray Ruether; brother-in-law, Doug (Chris) Mahussier; nieces and nephews, Craig (Sarah) Jason, Anthony (Sharon), Shaun (Kristie) Kozun; Rob (Wanda) Mark, Michelle (Derrick), Ryan (Carla) Mahussier; Blair (Leta) Dana, Dale Currey; Haley (Taylor) Maury, Kara (Connor)Ruether; stepdaughter, Rebecca (Josh) Doblo; and stepson, Robert (Tracy) Steffler; as well as ALL the great-nieces and great-nephews. She will be lovingly remembered by all of her cousins, friends and co-workers.
She was predeceased by her father, Garland Ruether; mother, Muriel Ruether; brother, Wayne Ruether; sister, Marlene Mahussier; husband, Gary Dutka; and soulmate Kevin Steffler.
We would like to thank the nurses and staff at Didsbury Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
