Keegan Bourgette

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Keegan Zachary Bourgette, who left us far too soon. Born on November 28, 1991, Keegan was a vibrant, creative, and gentle soul who brought imagination, kindness and warmth to the lives of everyone who knew him. Keegan was a man of immense creativity and intellect. He had a deep passion for storytelling, expressing his vivid imagination through both the written word and his incredible talent for sketching. An avid gamer, Keegan found great joy, camaraderie, and adventure in the worlds of video games and tabletop gaming, especially playing Dungeons & Dragons with friends. He is deeply loved and will be forever missed by his family. Keegan is lovingly remembered by his father, Ryck Bourgette (Donna Ball); his mother, Erin Carr; and his brothers, Sinjin Bourgette and Christian Carr (Chantal). He is also survived by his cherished nephews, Francis and William, alongside extended family and a community of friends who will carry his memory forward.

In lieu of flowers please donate to Canadian Mental Health Association in Keegan's memory.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

Keegan was one of my first friends when I moved to Fredericton. As a middle school kid who moved to a completely new place, he made me feel so comfortable and immediately welcomed me. We played "Go Fish" with Guess Who cards, which made absolutely no sense, but we thought it was hilarious to describe the characters in ridiculous ways just to hear the other person say, "Go Fish."

We went to a lot of movies over the years. Keegan was a great sport because he sat through plenty of movies I doubt he actually enjoyed just because I wanted to see them. One time he convinced me to go to an X-Men movie by promising me $5 if I didn't like it. No matter what happened in that movie, I wasn't going to like it. I never did get that $5, but honestly, I didn't deserve it. I got something much better: a great day with my friend. I only wish we could have taken that RV trip around the world.

Keegan was the kind of friend who barged into a women's bathroom because I was upset and sat with me until I was okay. I can still hear him yelling, "I'M COMING IN!" before entering.

He listened. Really listened. He would tell you all the amazing things about yourself, and he noticed everything. He observed things about people that they hadn't even taken the time to notice about themselves.

One of my favorite things about Keegan was his ability to make people laugh. He had such a unique way of seeing the world and could find humor in almost anything. That humor carried into his writing. He would share pieces of his stories with me, and I was always amazed by how vividly he could create entire worlds with what seemed like effortless detail.
You could ask Keegan the simplest question and somehow the answer would involve bulletproof glass, peaches, alternate timelines, and a completely unexpected detour. One of my favorite things was simply letting him tell the story and seeing where it ended up. He was endlessly creative.

I will miss him greatly and my heart goes out to his family. I know what a tremendous loss this is for all of you.
