Passed in Calgary, AB
Kevin Black

Kevin, a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, and a true friend to many, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Foothills Hospital in Calgary at the age of 68.

Kevin shared an extraordinary 44 years of marriage with the love of his life, Debra. Together, they built a life centered on family and love. He was a proud and dedicated father to Nicole (Douglas) Gilbertson, Nathan (Elizabeth) Black, and Sara (Travis) Adams, and loved their spouses as part of the family. Nothing brought Kevin more joy than his role as “Grandpa” to Rachel, Evelyn, and Beckett.

Kevin and Debbie lived on a farm just outside of Airdrie accomplishing a dream of his to own land. It was here that they broke ground, created a home, and built a life and family together—one in which he took immense pride.

Kevin spent his entire professional career in the telecommunications business, seeing many changes in his lengthy time in the industry.

Throughout his life, Kevin faced several health challenges, each met with courage and determination. He was grateful for the care and compassion of the many healthcare professionals who supported him along the way. His family would like to extend special thanks to Nurse Practitioner Sandra Anderson for her dedication, kindness, and support, as well as to Dr. E. Dixon, who performed a life-saving Whipple surgery 17 years ago.

Kevin had a lifelong passion for sports, playing many throughout his school years, including football at university. As his time from playing organized sports came to an end, he switched his focus to coaching the next generation of athletes and making a difference in their lives.

Known for his quick wit and sharp sense of humour, Kevin brought laughter and energy to every room. He lived fully, loved deeply, and faced life with an infectious optimism.

His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Kevin’s Life will be held at Crossfield Baptist Church, 285176 Highway 2A, Crossfield, AB, on Saturday, April 18 at 2:00 p.m.

What a loss to you all and to the community. May you soon feel his presence more than his absence.

I've very sorry to hear of his passing. I worked with Kevin for many years at the Phone Experts. You're not kidding, quick wit! He was a great guy, always willing to chat and lend a hand. One particular storey that I'll always remember him telling was about the badger they caught at the farm, and how the kids were pulling practical jokes on each other with it, putting it in the toolbox... I laugh just thinking about it and how he told the story. He will be missed.

Kevin was the definition of a “good man”. He was an exceptionally good coach, teaching Zach and Nathan (Nin) life principles woven along with the skills necessary to play basketball. We have many good memories of Kevin pacing up and down the sidelines, pulling at his hair, while energetically “playing the game” alongside the boys on the floor. Passive coaching was not his style. He was fully invested in helping the boys to win, while at the same time, teaching them integrity and respect for the rules, the referee and players on the opposing team, as well as their own. Kevin played a major part in the lives of our two youngest sons for several years and we will always be grateful for his positive influence. He was a huge asset to the community at large and will be missed.

Mr. Black coached me for many years in basketball and I’m so grateful for the way he did it. As I am now starting to coach kids’ sports myself, I have often thought back on his demeanor and methods, trying to follow his example. He was one of the most influential people in my childhood and I’ll forever be grateful. He will be missed here on earth but I look forward to seeing him again in heaven.

He was a trooper and a gentle man. I felt at home the first time I met him out at the farm. I enjoyed the tour of his cattle and all around the area in his truck. We shared lots of good times and meals together. A wonderful family, so glad to be a part of it. You are all in our prayers.
