Laura Krebs

It is with great love and sadness that the family of Laura Mary Krebs announces her passing on Monday, March 30, 2026, at the age of 94. Laura was born on December 29, 1931, in Didsbury, Alberta, and grew up on the family farm east of town. Her early years fostered a lifelong love of animals—especially horses—and a strong work ethic that shaped her entire life. At 17, she met her future husband, Howard Krebs, and they married on February 27, 1951, sharing 50 years together before his passing. Laura and Howard raised seven children while operating a dairy farm for 25 years. Laura was known for her strength, generosity, and tireless dedication to both her family and her community. She was an exceptional cook, a talented seamstress, and an enthusiastic supporter of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in all their activities. She curled and competed in cattle penning well into her 80s and embraced adventure throughout her life.

Laura volunteered extensively with local organizations, including the Women’s Institute, Lutheran Ladies’ Aid, 4 H clubs, and the Ag Society. She later worked at her nephews’ meat processing plant and remained active in the community after moving into town, where she helped organize the farmers market. Laura is lovingly remembered by her children, Darwin (Louise), Wanda (Ralph Bittner), Brian (Sue), Wayne, Wendy (Elmers Youngs), Lisa (Tom VanTetering), and Leah (Trevor Laing); her 16 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard; her siblings, Arnold, Lila, and Annie.

Laura will be remembered for her kindness, her courage, her unwavering love for family, and the remarkable life she lived.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Disbury, Alberta on Saturday April 11, 2026 at 2:00 pm.

If unable to attend the service you may view online on Facebook Redeemer Lutheran Church.

In Lieu of flowers a donation may be made in Laura’s memory to the Disbury Ag society - didsagso@telus.net.

My condolences to all the Krebsies mourning Laura. But also celebrating her life well lived. Mrs. Krebs' was very kind and very giving. When her brother Arnold passed, she pulled me aside and said "Thank you for being friends with my brother the last couple years." That made me feel real good then, and today. So your mom, grandma and aunt was awesome by all metrics. Everytime I have taco-in-a-bag, I will remember who invented it.

We met Laura a couple of times while attending family reunions, and were impressed by her dedication to her very large family, the energy and drive she had in everything she did.

Our deepest condolences to the Krebs family.
