Leslie Miller

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Leslie Janis Miller, who passed away in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 71. Surrounded by family in her final hours, she left us peacefully, far sooner than we were prepared for.

Born in Vancouver, BC, to James Alfred and Sigrid (Al and Sigga) Gleeson, Leslie built a life defined by dedication, adventure, and deep connection. She met Tom Miller in Richmond, BC, and the two married just six weeks later in June 1980, beginning a remarkable 44 year journey together. After establishing their life in Richmond, they later settled in Airdrie, Alberta, where they devoted many years to the Airdrie BMX Club and continued raising their family. Leslie was happiest outdoors, whether camping, golfing, or by the water, and in recent years, she and Tom embraced that passion fully, spending their summers together managing campgrounds and provincial parks. Following Tom’s passing in October 2024, Leslie is now reunited with her beloved husband, together again chasing the sunset.

Leslie spent 42 years in aviation, beginning with CP Air, continuing through Canadian Airlines, and concluding with Air Canada, where she retired in 2021.

Leslie is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Laurena (Jeremy) Pollock, and Christine Miller (partner, Greg Walker); her beloved grandchildren, Inara and Pierce; and Cookie, Tom’s cherished cat, who remained a special companion in Leslie’s care. She will also be remembered by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Frances Mercier, Shirley Sue, and Ronnie Knox; her brother, Garnet Gleeson; and her nephew, Chris Sue.

A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date to honour the lives of both Leslie and Tom.

We were sad to hear that Leslie passed away. Her and Tom were wonderful neighbors - always good for a chat, sharing tools, or just telling stories. Our condolences to Laurena, Christine and family.
