In Memory
Lotte Kurbis

It is with incredible sadness we said our final goodbye to a
caring, gentle mother and grandmother. She will be lovingly remembered by her children,
Alfred Kurbis and Irene Schlitt; son-in-law, Wilfred Schlitt; grandchildren,
Brittany-Friesen-Motz and husband Nathaneal Motz, and Brandon Friesen; her
brother, Seigfried Boehling from Germany and his children Norbert, Regina and
Peter; her sisters-in-law, Elfreida Berzins, Else Frank, Emmy Boehmer, and Erna
Boehling; as well as numerous friends. She was predeceased by her parents,
Ernst and Luise Boehling; husband, Ewald; sisters-in-law, Geada Boehling and
Anni Erb; and son-in-law, Wayne Friesen.
Lotte was born in Danzig, Germany, and experienced the horrors of war as a young child. She met her husband while in Germany at a youth retreat. He immigrated to Canada with some of his family in 1953, and she followed a year later. They were married in 1954. They settled in Vernon, BC, and Alfred was born and then Irene. They experienced unemployment and much hardship, and in 1965, moved to Golden, BC, until 2006. With her husband’s failing mental and physical health, she moved to Airdrie, AB, so she could be near to both of her children. When Ewald was forced to go into long term care, she stayed by his side constantly until his death in 2016. She enjoyed a trip to Israel when she was 79. Unfortunately, she suffered her first stroke at 80, although frailer she was still independent, her second stroke came 5 years later. This one was harder to recover from, and in 2020, she was forced into assisted living. March 2023, her third stroke took away her mobility and dexterity, and again a life change came with long term care, but her sense of humor was still vivid as she made us laugh with her antics. The fourth stroke in December, took her will to live and she succumbed to it. We rest in knowing she loved her Lord and Saviour and is with him. Thank you, mom, for demonstrating your faith in your walk and your words. You will be missed. For those who knew her, her Celebration of Life will be held at Grace Baptist Church in Airdrie on Friday, March 22, 2024 at 11:30 AM.
