Lyle Sargeant

Lyle passed away on Thursday January 15, 2026, at the Viking Hospital in Viking, Alberta, at the age of 80.

Lyle was born on March 23, 1945, to Parker and Florence Sargeant of Elk Point, Alberta. He attended Turville School near Chigwell, Alberta, and later Lacombe Junior High School until the age of 15. After leaving school, Lyle worked for a local farmer and neighbor, Norman Sheerer, working in the fields for a couple years. Once he earned his driver’s license, he worked at the Lacombe Feed Mill delivering feed for about a year.

An opportunity to drive a delivery truck for a catering company in Calgary, owned by Norman Sheerer’s sister and brother-in-law; took Lyle to the city. While living in Calgary, he began working at a welding shop through a friend, Earl Cusack, and soon started his welding apprenticeship. During this time, Lyle also pursued flying lessons, reflecting his curiosity and desire to learn new skills.

On April 15, 1967, Lyle married Linda Little. Together they welcomed two daughters, Anetta Irene and Orlene Louise. Lyle and Linda raised their family on a farm near Lindale, Alberta, where Lyle farmed the land, welded within the community and oilfield, raised cattle, pigs, chickens, and pastured cattle for others. Farming and welding were more than occupations for Lyle—they were a way of life that he dedicated himself to throughout 33 years of marriage.

On March 20, 2004, Lyle married Marilyn Sinclair. They made their home in Red Deer, Alberta, and later moved to Big Valley, Alberta. The last 15 years of Lyle’s life were marked by ongoing medical challenges. As his health gradually declined over the past four years, he received care in nursing homes throughout Alberta.

Lyle will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife, Marilyn; his daughters, Anetta (Shorty) Paul of Lloydminster, Alberta, and Orlene (Michael) Hahn of Ephrata, Washington; Marilyn’s son, Scott (Tanna), and their daughters of Calgary, Alberta; his grandchildren, Chad (Emily), Kelsie (Eric) Valois, Clay (Kylie) Paul, Lorena (Cole) Ross, Nicole, Parker, and Olympia Hahn; his great-granddaughters, Harlen Ross and Scottie Valois; his sisters, Lois (Earl) Loyek and Sylvia Sargeant; his brother, Nellis (Veronica) Sargeant; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Lyle was predeceased by his parents, Parker and Florence Sargeant, and his sister, Eda.

Lyle worked for my dad Norman after Lyle was done with school. My dad said he was the most eager to learn and was the best worker he ever hired. Over the years Lyle always stayed in touch with our family. My parents visited several times at the farm at Breton. A few years ago Lyle rode his electric trike out to our farm and spent a couple of hours seeding with me. On the same land he worked on 60 years ago. He was wealth of knowledge to me .
