Lyle Wegener

Lyle died Tuesday, November 14, 2023, in Calgary, AB, at the age of 77 years. Lyle was born on January 14, 1946. He was proud to call Calgary home his entire life. Lyle graduated from Crescent Heights High School, and attended the University of Calgary, earning his Bachelor of Physical Education, followed by his Bachelor of Education, and eventually earned his Masters Degree in Education from the University of Portland. Lyle spent the majority of his career, with the Calgary Board of Education where he was hired as the first male kindergarten teacher in Calgary. He retired in 2001, after working as an assistant principal for many years. His passion was working with, and providing support for underprivileged children.

Lyle’s greatest asset, was his sense of humour. He loved being with family and friends, always having a story to tell, and another story, and another story…! Even during his illness, he maintained a positive attitude, and was so appreciative of all the care he received.

Lyle is lovingly remembered by his wife, Pennie; his children, Brody (Terri-Anne) and Heather (Ryan); his grandchildren, Tate and Kynley, Aubrey and Kinnon; as well as his stepchildren, Jennifer and Steven; step-grandchildren, Morgan (Jeff), Harreson (Anna), Cassidy (Colin), Masyn and Chase; as well as 8 great grandchildren. Lyle will be missed by his sisters, Marilyn (Jim) and Brenda (Dick); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends. Lyle is predeceased by his parents Polly and Ed and his niece Michelle.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Thorncliffe Greenview Community Centre, 5600 Centre St. N, Calgary, on Friday, November 24, 2023 at 1:30-4:00.

I have always been an outsider, both in the world and in my own family. I remember a Christmas Eve, I spent at Terri-Anne and Brody's, maybe 10 years ago, and Lyle took the time to talk to me, ask about my life, and tell hilarious and relatable stories. He helped me feel more at home by extending his gracious and bold approval to me. I always felt secure and safe in his company. I have nothing but admiration and positive energy for Lyle. RIP.
