Passed in Calgary, AB
Marguerite "Marg" Mechin

Marguerite passed away peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 with her family by her side. Along with her husband John of over 33 years, Marg’s memory will be cherished by her children, Justin Mechin, Rachel Mechin and Harley Mechin; her mother, Hanna Brust; her sisters, Evelyn Brust, Karen Brust and their families; her brothers, Gerald Brust, Berny Brust and their families; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and her numerous special friends. She was predeceased by her father, Edmund Brust; and her brother, Ronald Brust.

Marg was born in Calgary and raised there and in Turner Valley, when her parents bought the grocery store Arnold’s Meat & Grocery in 1973, when she was 15 years old. Thereafter, she move back to Calgary to live with her grand parents Oma Emma and Opa Herman Brust and graduated from Crescent Heights High School in 1976.

She worked for many years for the CIBC and always continued to take courses that lead her to take on more senior management positions at various branches in the city. It was during this time that she met her husband John, they got married in December 1990 and continued to live in Calgary. Soon after leaving CIBC she started her own bookkeeping business and really enjoyed her clients, working from home and raising a family.

Marg was a tireless volunteer who gave her time freely to her children’s activities, children’s schooling, her church and may other causes and non-profit organizations. Marg loved music, and was able to play many different instruments. She had a love for animals and a passion for going camping with her family, her relatives and family friends. A favourite special place was Waterton Park where many fond family camping memories were made.

After battling Lyme’s disease for several years, Marg took a serious fall in 2017 and suffered a brain injury that took a real toll on her ability to function normally, communicate and be with her family. Her health began to slowly decline but her spirit, warm heart and genuine love of God was evident to everyone who met her.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all the caregivers, doctors and nurses at Intercare Brentwood Care Centre for their care of Marg.

A Memorial Service with be held at the Glamorgan Church, 4715 – 45th Street SW Calgary, Alberta on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at 5:00 pm with reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Marg’s memory may be made to Children’s Wish Foundation, https://makeawish.ca/donate/.

Dear Family Brust, My wife, Sanna, and I send you our heartfelt simpathy at the news of Margets passing. It was always special for Ruth, my sister, and I, to make the trips through Calgary, visit you, and continue on all the way to Edmonton. What a trip those days from San Jose to Edmonton and back.
Wishing you peace from Above and joy that Margret is now redeemed. Blessings, Sieg

Your family was so active in Scouting. I loved our chats and getting your practical perspective on various topics. You and John have raised beautiful children. Most of my memories are of Harley. He always made me laugh. I know you're happy and smiling down on your family. Until we meet again!
