In Memory
Marilyn Avis Henderson

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and neighbor. Marilyn Avis Henderson passed away in her sleep in her home on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 77 yrs. She is lovingly remembered by her son, Rick Henderson; daughter, Michelle Motycka (Glen); grandchildren, Nick, McKenzie, Vanessa, Austin and Dylon; great-grandchildren, Hunter and River; sister, Carol Dahl (Bob); as well as several nieces and nephews and extended families. She will also be missed by several close friends and neighbors.
Marilyn was Born June 24, 1947, in Drumheller, AB., the youngest child of three. At the age of 16 she met the love of her life Vern Henderson as she walked across the Drumheller Bridge. They were married the following year on April 23, 1964. They welcomed their first child, Rick on Nov 19, 1965, then after two infant deaths they adopted their daughter, Michelle, in 1970. They lived in Alberta and Saskatchewan, in the early years as Vern was employed by the Oil sector and followed the rigs. In Spring of 1975 they purchased their quarter in the New Hill District, and the family settled into the farming way of life. Marilyn adapted to being a farmer’s wife and enjoyed her time in the garden, helping with farm work and her various retail jobs. She hosted bible study in her home for many years where she acquired many friends. Her great passion came after the children left home when Vern and Marilyn ventured into the Ostrich Industry. She spent countless hours devoted to the raising of these birds and was truly her calling. After the collapse of the ostrich market Marilyn started her Volunteer career by volunteering her time at the Red Deer and Innisfail Hospitals. Marilyn was very dedicated to her job and had earned many appreciation pins for her commitment. After Vern’s passing, when the farm became too much for her to manage by herself, Marilyn sold the farm and moved to Innisfail in the summer of 2010. She continued with her volunteering until her health prevented it. Marilyn was very proud to still be able to live in her own home and watch the people walking their dogs in the park across the street as well as take her scooter trips around town with her late friend, Marg. Marilyn will also be remembered by those who were affected by her gag gifts, if you were special to her you got to see her other side which was her lighthearted humor. Marilyn was predeceased by husband, Vern; infant son, Reggie; infant daughter, Angela; parents, Pat and Tex Havens; brother, Roy; and brother-in-Law, Ralph Henderson. In lieu of flowers donations in Marilyn’s memory can be made to Stars Air Ambulance. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date and will be announced here and in the paper.
