Mark Rodney Hogg

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mark Rodney Hogg on Wednesday,  March 18, 2026, at the age of 27.

Mark will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Scott and Shirley; his sister, Danielle (Cory), his nephew, Hunter; and his niece, Miley. Sister Kendra; and his brother, Booker. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Ralph and Theresa Hogg.

Mark was known for his adventurous spirit and his love of life. He found joy in fishing, lawn mower racing, riding his motorcycle, and spending time cooking and enjoying good food with those he loved. He was an incredible friend—loyal, generous, and always willing to lend a hand or share a laugh. Mark had a way of bringing people together, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Mark proudly served as a Master Corporal in the Canadian Armed Forces as an Aircraft Weapons Technician with the 410 Tactical Fighter Training Squadron (Cougars). His dedication, skill, and commitment to service were a source of pride to his family and all who served alongside him.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the ICU at the University of Alberta Hospital, as well as Give Life Alberta, for their care and compassion.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Carstairs Community Hall, 1100 Lackner Way, Carstairs, AB on Friday, April 3, 2026 at 2:00 PM.

Mark’s memory will live in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

I knew Mark from around the hangar. He was indeed funny. We hit it off as I was a former weapons guy and we both were motorcycle enthusiasts. Gone to soon brother but not forgotten.

Rest easy

I met Hoggy on an Air Cadet advanced aviation course in Gimli Manitoba. Our first night due to some travel delays our entire group spent the night on a hangar floor and him and I were bunked beside each other. We got talking and found out we were both from small towns in Alberta and hit it off immediately. Once we got on course he instantly stole the show as the class comedian by pulling a mini skateboard out of his suitcase he got through inspections by telling them it was a “travel ironing board”. For the rest of the course we spent lots of time getting up to general mischief on base, swapping music, and pranking. He had the entire group teary eyed laughing multiple times every single day. He was absolute hilarity every time he opened his mouth. Once we got back home we stayed in touch and got together to catch up more than a few times. My heart goes out to the family, rest in peace brother.

Mark and I originally met in Carter’s/Crossfield area but we never bonded. We met again in Borden where we connected and recalled our previous meetings. It is with sadness to hear of this passing.

I wouldn't have met my fiance if it wasnt for mark, he was a very good friend and always made the extra mile for people he cared about, his adventurous spirit helped spark that same spirit in people he met, our deepest condolences to the family.

I was in Borden waiting for my posting when Mark and I met. I had stormed into the first room with an open door asking for a smoke after getting into an argument with one of my roommates and he was there to answer the call. We stepped out for a smoke and in conversation we realized we both came from Alberta. I asked him where from and I got the same answer I give to people, "small town you've never heard of". I told him to try me because I lived in a small town north of Calgary and , and got to know the surrounding area quite well. He said Carstairs and I couldn't help but laugh. Thats where I lived when I joined the airforce. It was good times from then on. Life took us in separate directions, but we still kept tabs from time to time.

My sincerest condolences to the family.

I had the privilege of working alongside Mark at CFB Greenwood, where he left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Mark was known for his incredible personality—he brought energy, warmth, and laughter wherever he went. His friendly smile was constant, and his ability to lift the spirits of those around him made him truly unforgettable. Whether on the job or at a social gathering, Mark was often the life of the party, creating moments that people will cherish for years to come.

He was not only a great colleague but also a genuine and caring individual who made a difference in the lives of others simply by being himself. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the honour of knowing him.

Mark’s memory will live on through the friendships he built and the joy he brought to so many.

I have never met someone quite like Mark, the most caring, big hearted loving man, he showed me life in a different view. The best lasagna I’ve ever had and I’m sure I will never have another one even 1/8th as good. He will be missed dearly, sending my love and care to all the family and friends during this time.

I've had the pleasure of training with Mark in CFB Borden, working with him at CFB Greenwood and deploying alongside Mark to Scotland a few years ago; Mark was truely a one of a kind, genuine guy that could make any situation into a story to remember. Some of those stories probably shouldn't be shared haha. Rest easy Mark, you won't be forgotten.

Mark was one of the AWS techs on my crew in Newquay, UK on an international exercise. Always a hard worker with a smile on his face. After hours we would go out and enjoy the local pubs etc. Those who know Air Force trades know that AWS techs are always a source of concerns with their antics and Mark was no exception. He definitely improved moral on that deployment with his hilarious stories and shirtless wobbly strolls back to our accommodations. He will be missed by many in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Rest in peace Mark.
