Marlace G. Monds

It is with profound sadness and gratitude for a life well-lived, that we announce the peaceful passing of Marlace Monds on Friday, March 6, 2026, at the age of 88. Marlace departed this world in Drayton Valley, Alberta, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's and cancer, surrounded by the love and support of her family.
Born on January 9, 1938, in Leduc, Alberta, Marlace was the cherished daughter of Rachel and James Durstling. She grew up in a home filled with warmth and laughter, alongside her siblings Audrey, Sylvia, James, Don, Delbert, and Judy. Her upbringing instilled in her the values of kindness, resilience, and unwavering dedication to those she loved.
In 1954, Marlace married the love of her life, James Ralph Monds, with whom she shared a beautiful journey of partnership and devotion until his passing. Together, they built a family that became the cornerstone of Marlace's world, her children, Wayne (Judy) Monds, Timothy (Patricia) Monds and Bonnie (Mark) Prediger, were the pride and joy of her life. Marlace was loved by her nine grandchildren; Marie, Matthew, Marlace, Chelsey, Joshua, Jevin, Alicia, Tyler and Trevor; and fourteen great-grandchildren; Lincoln, Layla, Logan, Rylan, McKayla, Madison, Nathaniel, Aubrey, James, Bennett, James, Leah, Bentley, and Jacob. Her siblings, Don (Claire) Durstling, Delbert (Rose) Durstling, Judy Aimoto, and brother in law Earl (Joyce) Monds, along with her extended family, will forever cherish the memories and the bond they shared with her. Marlace was predeceased by her beloved husband, James; her parents, Rachel and James; her siblings, James, Sylvia, and Audrey.
A woman of quiet strength and grace, Marlace's presence was a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew her. She had an innate ability to make everyone feel special, and her home was always open, filled with laughter, delicious meals and baking. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to touch the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A service to honor and celebrate Marlace's Life will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026, at 1:30 PM at the Legion Hall in Ponoka. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Drayton Valley Continuing Care for their compassion and support given to Marlace in her time there.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Alberta Cancer and Alzheimer's organizations in memory of Marlace's resilient spirit and her fight against these challenging diseases.
As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we hold Marlace in our hearts, carrying forward the lessons of love, kindness, and resilience she taught us. Her spirit will forever be woven into the fabric of our lives, reminding us to cherish each moment and to live with grace and gratitude.
Rest in peace, dear Marlace. Your life was a blessing, and your memory a treasure.
