In Memory
Marlene Balding

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marlene Elizabeth Mae Balding on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the age of 81. Marlene passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family.
Born on April 19, 1945, in Deloraine, Manitoba, Marlene was the daughter of Alexander and Florence Cowan and was raised in Goodlands, Manitoba. She lived in several communities throughout Manitoba before settling in Airdrie, Alberta, in 1992, where she remained for the rest of her life.
Marlene was married to Donald Balding in December 1962, and together they raised six children. Her family was the center of her world, and she took immense pride in watching it grow through the generations.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Donnalee (Kevin), Robbie (Joanne), Carolyn (Wayne), Alanna, Diane (Leonard), and Wendy (Dean). She was a proud grandmother to Jeff, Tracy (Clay), Cassandra (Dan), Nicole (Greg), Bobby (Brandy), Amber (Kyle), Brittany, Amanda (Greg), Tarren (Samara), Michaela (Dylan), Jeremy, Kristofer (Nora), Tyler (Lyvia), and Logan (Ainsley).
Marlene was also blessed with great-grandchildren Emma (Seth), Gracie, Jace, Tobias, Nicolas, Lilith, Riley, Charlee, Sadie, Allie, Jessica, Brandon, Dawn, Jacob, Dylon, Zoe, and Owen.
Marlene’s family extended far beyond her immediate relatives. She was also loved by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Her caring nature and welcoming spirit created lasting connections, and she held a special place in the hearts of so many whose lives she touched.
Marlene will be remembered for her kindness, resilience, and the love she showed through the simple things in life. She was known as an exceptional cook and baker whose homemade soups, fresh-baked bread, and famous meringue pies brought family and friends together. No one ever left her table hungry.
She had a special love for gardening and flowers, which brought her endless joy. Marlene also enjoyed quilting and lovingly made quilts for many of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. These handmade gifts will remain cherished reminders of her thoughtfulness and care.
Her beloved Pomeranian, Molly, was a constant companion and brought her much comfort and happiness in the time they shared together.
More than anything, Marlene treasured her family. Her love, support, and quiet strength shaped the lives of those around her, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A public Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at the Balzac Community Hall. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate Marlene’s life. A light lunch will be provided.
“A life filled with love leaves memories that last forever.”
