Marlene was born in Missanabie, Ontario on July 3, 1937. Raised with her six siblings in the remote northern railway community without roads, indoor plumbing or running water. Her childhood was shaped by resilience, resourcefulness, and the strength of Northern Ontario living, which she always carried close to her heart. Her love for learning was evident from an early age and her tenacity pushed to overcome any obstacles in her way. Marlene went on to study at Teachers College in Toronto. Then began teaching career in Webbwood, Ontario. There, she taught at the local one-room schoolhouse, nurturing and inspiring her students with patience, kindness, and encouragement. Later in life, she returned to school for accounting embodying a lifelong dedication to learning and knowledge.

Marlene met and married her beloved husband, Bob, at All Saints Anglican Church in Missanabie. Married 56 years they built a life full of love, laughter, and devotion to family. They welcomed their children, Rhonda and Brent, who brought them endless joy. They especially treasured summers at Dog Lake that were filled with baking, board games, long days outdoors, and the simple joy of being together. Her greatest joy was her family. As “Nanny,” she was a constant source of love, comfort, and gentle wisdom. Her home was always warm and welcoming for everyone. Her devotion to those she loved was evident in every gathering, celebration, and quiet moment shared.

In 2002, Marlene and Bob moved to Calgary to be closer to their children and grandchildren, creating countless cherished memories that will be held close for years to come. In Calgary, they became active and cherished members of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, generously sharing their time, talents, and hearts with their church community. Marlene spent her later years volunteering and cherishing time with her family and her church community. She lived her life with conviction and purpose, always putting her faith and her family first, and her legacy of love and devotion will remain with all who knew her. She will be deeply missed. The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude for the outstanding care she received at AgeCare Midnapore and thank the staff for their support and compassion over the past decade.
