In Memory
Maxwell Fiander

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maxwell (Max) Randall Fiander, who passed away on Monday, July 26, 2026, at the age of 73.
Growing up on the East Coast, Max held a wide variety of careers throughout his life, from fishing and working on the railway to CRA investigations. He eventually made his home in Airdrie, where he became a business owner and worked as a CGA accountant before retiring.
Max will be remembered for his boisterous laugh, his inappropriate sense of humour, his ability to grow trees to gigantic proportions, and his love of simple addition and random statistics. He loved to travel, experience life and go on adventures with his family. He also appreciated life’s simpler pleasures, especially ice cream, relaxing at his trailer in Sundre with the Rosewood community, and the companionship of his beloved dog, Petra.
Above all, Max loved spending time with his “terrors,” as he affectionately called his grandchildren. They brought him endless joy, and his time with them was among the happiest and most meaningful parts of his life.
Max will be deeply missed by his wife, Shelley (née Dobbyn); his stepchildren, Jackie (Matt), Kari (Brett) and Derek (Jennifer); his grandchildren; his siblings; and his many extended family members and friends.
A private celebration of Max’s life will be held Sept 27, 2026. Please reach out to the family for details.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the PREP Society at www.prepsociety.ca, an organization close to Max’s heart where he spent time each week with his granddaughter.
