Melvin Gerard Gallant, 85 passed away peacefully on Friday,  May 3, 2024. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Florence of 64 years, his sons Bart (Debbi) and Melvin and daughter Debbie.  Mel was predeceased by his daughter Mary and son Darrell.

 

Mel otherwise known as papa, is remembered by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, as well as numerous brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mel was born to Alice and Simon on October 14, 1938 in Glace Bay, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia where he resided until he moved his family to Red Deer in 1968.

Papa is remembered by his family for his sense of humor, deep love of music and sports. It wasn't Christmas without papa and nana singing and dancing around the house together.

 Mel was well-know from his career at Parkland Class, where he made lifelong friends and connections. He was passionate about his role as a co-worker and local jokester.

 

The family would like to thank the amazing ICU staff at the Red Deer Hospital for their thoughtful and compassionate care of dad during this difficult time.

 

Mel's Celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

I am so sorry. He was like a dad to me and always welcomed all of us into his home. His sense of humor and joking was unpredictable. I spoke with Flo right after he passed. Please let me know when you have his celebration of life.
