Michael Carriere
Michael John Carriere of Red Deer passed away
peacefully on June 10, 2023, after a short battle with cancer at the age of 82.
He IS survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Gladys Carriere; three daughters, Linda (Gord) Liner, Donna Carriere and Pam (Rick) Weatherall; one son, Glen Carriere; nine grandchildren, Samantha, Jennifer (Adam), Kevin (Brittany), Brandon (Katlyn), Wyatt (Lindsay), Hannah, Cameron, Taylor, and Tye; and 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dave Carriere and Dale (Shelia) Carriere; brother-in-law, Randy Spagrud; sister, Kathy (Brian) Stevens; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Pearl and Mike Carriere; sisters, Doreen Carriere and Eileen Spagrud; and sister-in-law, Doreen Carriere.
Mike was born April 11, 1941, on the farm near Crystal, Springs Saskatchewan, to parents, Pearl and Mike Carriere.
The Carriere family moved to Alberta from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan in 1955 making Red Deer their final stop.
Mike and Gladys met in March 1960 at a country dance at Poplar Ridge Hall. They married on October 20, 1960. This past October they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.
In 1963 Mike started his mechanic apprenticeship at West Park Shell. He went on to achieve his journeyman mechanics in 1967. In 1974 Mike and his two brothers Dave and Dale purchased West Park Automotive, where Mike worked until the closing in 2001. Mike went to work for the Red Deer Public School Board from 2002 to 2013 and then he retired.
Mike was an avid sports fan. He played senior A
hockey for GOW’s transport and competitive fastball for Festival Ford. And of
course, cheering on the Oilers.
Mike loved the outdoors spending his weekends
camping, 4 x 4ing, and fishing with his family and friends. Hunting was also a
big part of the fall activities. As time passed, the next generations arrived.
Mike carried on the traditions with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.
Mike was truly passionate and proud of all his kids,
grandkids, and great-grandkids.
A social come and go will be held for Mike on Sunday, June 18, 2023, from 2 PM to 5 PM with a short program at 3 PM. Location - Harvard Park Business Center 3420–21 Street, Springbrook, Alberta.
