Born in County of Cornwall Callington (Hamlet), England

Monica Sleep

Monica was born the eldest child of Jim and Maude Strout. She married William “David” Sleep in Cornwall on Oct. 15, 1966. They came to Manitoba, Canada where they had a dairy farm. They sold it and moved to Brandon where they bought a Motel. After divorcing she moved to Alberta to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She retired in Drumheller where she remained until her passing, thanks to MAID.

Monica thought camping with her grandchildren and friends were a high priority. She was very interested in the Red Hatter (Crown Jewels) and Beta Sigma Phi organizations in Drumheller. Some of her hobbies included crafting such as Diamond Dot paintings, and flowerpots just to name a few, travelling until her health deteriorated, playing games on her tablet, reading and watching TV, especially Coronation Street. She loved socializing whether it was on the phone or going out for visits and meals. She was a very caring person which was a great asset as a Health Care Aide in Long Term Care and a Companion with Helping Hands in Drumheller.

Monica is lovingly remembered by her son, Ian Richard Sleep of Cold Stream, B.C.; daughter, Kathryn Jane (Todd) Boorse of Red Deer, AB; grand daughter, Kelsey Chambers (Robert Sinclair) of Drumheller, AB; grandson, Cody Chambers of Lucan, ON.; sister, Julia Atkinson of Lauceston, Cornwall, England; former son-in-law, Mark Chambers of Lucan, ON.; close longtime friends, Jerry and Marie Koustrup and confidant, Sonja Koustrup. Monica was predeceased by parents, Jim and Maude Strout; and sister, Margaret Hopkins, all of England.

A farewell Celebration of Life was held at the Drumheller Legion on Sat. June 10, 2023 so friends and family could say their goodbyes.

Donations can be made to the Vasculitis Society of Canada 446 – 425 Hespeler Road, Cambridge, ON  N1R 8J6

Monica would like to thank to helpful staff of MAID. She wishes to let everyone know she has “Peace at Last!”
