Myrna Janet Miller

Myrna Miller passed away on Tuesday, January 13th, 2026, at the age of 87. She is lovingly remembered by her children and their spouses, Brad (Carol-Ann), Tracey Brown, Scott (Carla). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Brandon (Jenna), Caprice, Kade, and Zenna; and her great-grandchildren, Malcolm and Harvey, the children of Brandon and Jenna.

Myrna will be fondly remembered by her extended family, including her lone surviving sister, Gerrie Chocalacek, along with many nieces and nephews living in Alberta, British Columbia, and various locations around the world.

Myrna was predeceased by her husband, Donald William Miller; siblings, Maxine, Lila, Bill, Grace, Joyce, Velva, Frank, and Guy; as well as her son-in-law, Cameron Brown.

Myrna will be remembered with respect by Michelle and Carole Chovanez, the extended families of her children’s spouses; her friends, Willie and Wayne Chapelle; the McDougall United Church congregation; members of her TOPS group; her wider friendship circle; and the “Golden Gals.” The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to everyone acknowledged, as well as to those who may have been unintentionally overlooked. Myrna will be remembered and missed by countless individuals.

Myrna prioritized her family throughout her life, valuing time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was also deeply involved in her church community, participating actively in its various activities. Myrna consistently attended weekly TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meetings, followed by luncheons, and contributed to support groups for spouses who had lost loved ones. In addition, she enjoyed social gatherings and luncheons with her Golden Gals, as well as maintaining close relationships with former colleagues from Vee Zay Smith & Associates.

Myrna was born to Caroline and Roland Maxson in Kelowna, British Columbia. While in high school, she participated actively on the basketball team and was involved with the school marching band. In her final year, she took part in Kelowna’s “Lady of the Lake” beauty pageant and was subsequently awarded the title of Miss Gyro Beach. She relocated to Calgary in 1957. Shortly after her arrival, she met Don, and they were married on September 5, 1959. In addition to being an exceptional housewife, Myrna worked as a geologist's assistant at Vee Zay Smith & Associates, where she was responsible for color-coding blueprints. To help her children understand her work, she described it simply as “painting maps.” Her role required attention to detail and precision, qualities in which she excelled thanks to her perfectionist approach. Later in her career, she worked at the Plumbful Warehouse, where her keen attention to detail was evident as she meticulously categorized the store's countless parts.

Myrna was a talented artist, and her paintings are displayed not only in her own home but also in the homes and rooms of all her children and grandchildren. She took great pride in her gardening and was always delighted by the wide array of beautiful flowers in her garden.

Myrna will be deeply missed since she was such a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Her compassion, warmth, and unwavering support left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

A Celebration of Life will take place at McDougall United Church, located at 8516 Athabasca St SE, Calgary, on Friday, January 23 at 1:00 p.m. Following the service, attendees are invited to join a gathering with the family in the church's meeting hall. Not an aunt by blood but an aunt by heart. We were fortunate to love and be loved by such a warm and loving sole. We will miss her terribly. She is now with her Donald which is a lovely thought. Rest in peace.

A soft, but bright, sweet light blinked out when we lost our Myrna. McDougall United Church now has many vacancies for tasks Myrna performed at the Church where she generously shared her substantial artistic talents. Her presence will be missed by the GG.s & at the Friendship Club. Memories of happy gatherings in Myrna's home will be treasured. RIP dear friend. Sincere sympathy to Myrna's loved ones.

We are so sorry for your loss. I like to think she’s catching up with Uncle Don. ❤️ I will always remember her as my “super pretty Auntie” because as a little girl that’s how I thought of her. RIP Auntie Myrna. 💕
