Myrtle Hansen

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother Myrtle Hansen who was lifted away on Angel’s wings on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 87 years of age.
Myrtle will be fondly remembered and forever loved by her brother, Lyle (Carol), children Carol, Donna (George), Glenda and Gary; grandchildren, Keri (Quinn), Tania, Evan, Zak, Dihanna, Mark (Trish), Blair (Amanda), Wade (MinSo), Cecelia, Travis, great-grandchildren Nikolas, Brandy, Calvin, Celeste, Daxton, Ayden and Harlow.
Myrtle was predeceased by her brothers, Lloyd and Lionel along with her eldest daughter, Wendy and her husband, Ritchie.
Myrtle was born July 13, 1938 in Melfort, Saskatchewan and at a very young age relocated with her parents James and Mary, to Lethbridge, Alberta where she grew up. She will be remembered for her many academic successes, beginning at a very young age being recognized in 1955 with a Gov’t of Alberta Perpetual Memorial Prize for highest marks in Grade 10 Social Studies. Myrtle married and had 5 children in Lethbridge and relocated to Edmonton in 1966 where she earned a Nursing Aide degree in 1969, allowing her to serve 13 years in the Health Care Industry at the U of A Hospital in Edmonton. Afterwards, success continued with a Legal Administrative Degree earned in 1984 allowing her to end her working career in Office Administration.
Myrtle retired at 65 years of age and spent the next 20 years with friends at the Manor in Crossfield, Alberta. Her last 2 years of life were lived out at Airdrie Care Community in Airdrie, Alberta.
Family and friends would like to send a special thank you to the staff, volunteers and neighbours at Airdrie Care Community for their friendship and ongoing compassionate care, consistently going the extra mile when our loving mother was fading from illness and age.
Myrtle will be laid to rest in her chosen crypt at Glenwood Memorial Gardens in Sherwood Park, Alberta on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 2pm followed by a Celebration of Life at the Kingsway Legion Branch #175 in Edmonton, Alberta where she was a long-time active member who enjoyed playing darts, winning numerous awards through the years.
