Nettie Krahn (nee Sawatzky)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Nettie Krahn (née Sawatzky) on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the age of 77.

Nettie will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 58 years, Ben Krahn; her sons, Roger and Kevin Krahn; her siblings and her six cherished grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Abram and Helen Sawatzky; her sister, Helen Kehler; her brother, Hans Sawatzky; and her son, Daniel Krahn.

Born in Paraguay, Nettie immigrated to Canada with her family in 1965, settling in Niverville, Manitoba. She was 1 of 16 children. It was there she met Ben, and the two were married in 1967. Together they raised three sons and, in the 1970s, made Airdrie, Alberta their home, where Nettie lived the remainder of her life.

Nettie dedicated many years of service to Westinghouse (later Eaton Cutler Hammer) in Airdrie, retiring at the age of 65. Beyond her career, she was known for her warmth, generosity, and remarkable talents. A gifted cook and baker, her noodles, cookies, and buns were legendary among family and friends. She also found joy in crocheting and sewing, creating pieces that reflected her care and creativity.

Above all, Nettie was a devoted wife, sister, mother, and grandmother. Her kindness, strength, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A Funeral Service will be held at Airdrie Grace Baptist Church on Friday, December 5, at 2:00 p.m., followed by a graveside service at the Airdrie Cemetery.
