In Memory
Norman Jake Tiessen

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Norman Tiessen on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the age of 72 years in Red Deer, Alberta. Norman was born on July 2, 1952, and always assumed the Canada day fireworks the day before were in preparation of his birthday the next day. Norm was a world traveller and loved to tell the tales. Like the time he slept under the stars in an old, abandoned castle in Wales. Always happy to return home to his family in his beloved Calgary.
Norman married Cynthia Elizabeth in August of 1977. From that point on we lived the real-life Family Circus. Complete with babies, crabby seniors, rambunctious teenagers and peculiar house guests. Quite often all at the same time. He fiercely loved all of them. Norm always had a menagerie of pets that somehow found him. Houdini dogs, kleptomaniac gerbil, unsociable cat, plenty of fish and a hamster who needed elective surgery and got it. He loved them all. Norm enjoyed and took pride in his work that allowed him extensive travels and adventures as well as a wonderful work family for many years. We want a very special shout out to Norman’s coffee chat gang and of course the Calgary Flames. They kept him going this past year for sure. Norman is lovingly remembered by his loving wife, Cynthia Elizabeth; two sons, Eric Scott (Kayla) and Matthew Norman; brothers, Ron and Ted; and little sister, Linda. Predeceased by his parents, Betty and Jake Tiessen. A Celebration of Norman’s Life will be held late summer/ early autumn when the earth is in full bloom. For this was his favourite time of year. If desired donations in Norm’s honour may be made to the Humane Society.
