The family of Norman Sefton of Water Valley, Alberta, sadly announce his passing on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the age of 85 years.

He was husband to his wife, Jean (Lyall) of 61 years; dad to his children, Wendy (Rob), Bonnie (Russell) and Duane; gramps to Tyler, Daina, Ryan, Megan and Justin; brother, to Keith, Joanne and Janice (Reo); brother-in-law, to Barb (Ed) and uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Norm was born on November 4, 1940, in Calgary and grew up on the family farm northeast of Crossfield, Alberta.

He started his family in Crossfield where he was a parts person, drove a propane truck, a fire chief and then owned & operated Rocky’s Excavating. Then in 1977 they up and moved the family to Water Valley where they owned & operated the Water Valley General Store and later the Water Valley Hardware.

Norm enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, traveling and driving around looking at different places. He was very talented in mechanics, construction, wood working and restoration of old tractors.

Norm was known for always willing to lend his hands, expertise and heart to help the community.

In 2022 Norm was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia and over the last few months his health declined. We are grateful for the care he received from the team at the Arthur Child Cancer Centre and for the staff at Didsbury Hospital in the acute care unit.
