In Memory
Patricia "Pat" Birchall
It is with deep sadness that we
announce the passing of Patricia Birchall (nee Jansen). Pat, the daughter of
Reka and Steve Jansen, was raised on a farm near Dogpound, Alberta. She
attended SAIT and worked for BP and Petro-Canada before marrying Brian Birchall
in 1980. They lived in Ranchlands in Calgary before moving out to a ¼ section
NE of Airdrie in 1986 with their two daughters, Alexa and Stephanie. They
raised cattle and Pat calved cows while Brian worked downtown.
Pat loved curling, travelling,
quilting and gardening. She was active in the community and was involved with
the Airdrie Helping Hands 4-H Club and Cochrane Historical Society for years.
In 2006 Pat and Brian moved back to Dogpound and built a new house and farmstead.
They expanded the cow herd and made many memories travelling. Brian died in
2014 and Pat moved to Airdrie after being diagnosed with Myelofibrosis, a rare
form of bone marrow cancer. The disease made her very tired but she was still
able to enjoy many good years and revelled in being a grandma to Clara and
Brooke.
Pat is lovingly remembered by
her daughters, Alexa and Stephanie (Dustin); her grandchildren, Clara and
Brooke; her sisters, Marianne (Carson Schultz), Elaine (Craig Horner), Helen
(Jack Sabin); and her brother, John (Helen); as well as her late husband
Brian’s brothers, Larry (Ruth), Grant (Twila) and Kent; as well as nieces
nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service Celebrating Pat’s Life was held Monday, February 13,
2023 at the Madden Hall at 2:00 pm.
