In Memory
Patricia "Pat" Freeman

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia (Pat) Joan Freeman. She passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at The Hamlets of Red Deer. Pat was 88 years old. She was born at the Cummins house east of Forshee Alberta. She was the third child out of seven born to Samuel and Emily Joan Freeman. Being amongst three brothers before her sisters were born made her into the tough, resilient, resourceful and hard-working person that she became.
Pat had many gifts, not least of which were her sharp wit and sense of humor. She loved to dance to and sing country music, loved pretty clothes and jewellery. She was a good athlete and played softball into middle age. Though an excellent housekeeper, she loved the outdoors and often accompanied her brother Terence on his trapline in the winter, skated on the Blindman River, skied on the surrounding hills and helped the boys with the outside chores. After finishing high school she went to work at the Three-Way Hospital in Rimbey and loved caring for the patients.
There were many years spent living in Eckville, before moving to Withrow and after a time moving to Leslieville, where she stayed until moving into the manor in Eckville. After having a mini stroke, she spent about four months in the hospital in Red Deer, before moving into the Hamlets of Red Deer, where she enjoyed the last six years of her life.
Patricia is lovingly remebered by her six children, Terry (Peggy) Shields, Kenny Shields, Bobby (Cathy) Shields, Earl Shields, Peter Liddell, and Kathleen (Kathy) Liddell; Brother, Ralph Freeman; sisters, Gladys (Ernie) Marshall, Sandra (Jim) Gray; brother-in-law, Russ Shortt. Pat leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Emily Joan Freeman; her two husbands, Dave Shields and Alexander Liddell; brothers, Philip Freeman, Terence and wife Betty Freeman; sister, Beatrice Shortt; as well as her great granddaughter, Clara Shields; and nephew, Douglas Marshall.
Cremation has taken place and in keeping with her wishes, no memorial service will be held.
