In Memory
Robert (Bob) James Planidin

It is with great sadness that we share the loss of Robert “Bob” Planidin, 75 of Calgary, AB who passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
Born on February 13, 1950 in Calgary, AB, Bob is remembered by his wife, Joanne; daughters, Kiyomi (Daniel) and Yoshiko (Mykel); and grandchildren, Abigail, Emiko, Xander and Koji. He is also beloved by his siblings, Dennis (Diane), Phillip (Karen), Francis, Deborah, Vicky (Rene) and Pennie (Paul) and many nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Mary and his step-father, Micheal Maty.
Bob was very proud to call himself a true Calgarian; born, raised and having lived all of his life in this city. Bob came from a family that loved music and he spent much of his youth engaged in the music business. From his first band “The Beat Merchants” his love of music never faltered as he accumulated numerous instruments such as guitars, mandolins, banjos, keyboards and bongo drums. He started his career as a sound technician and then on to a business in the audio industry. His creative nature then moved to a business in graphics, marketing and design. In his later years he was an associate at the Beacon Hill Home Depot where his love of people truly shone.
Often referring to himself as Big Bad Bob, he will always be remembered for his larger than life personality. Bob was known as a character and loved to laugh and connect genuinely with everyone he met. He spent the majority of his life engaged in volunteer activities and was a member of the Stampede City Kinsmen for many years. He was involved with the Children’s Hospital Foundation and was the founder of the Children’s Hospital Home Lottery.
Bob loved to spend time with his grandchildren, whether it was cooking or baking in the kitchen, playing card games or teaching them how to golf. Bob loved to golf and although in the last year he wasn’t able to spend as much time on the links as he had in the past, his heart was always on the course.
The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the medical team at the Foothills Hospital ICU for the exceptional care and compassion provided to Bob and his family.
