Robert "Larry" Robertson

Larry Robertson of Dog Pound, Alberta has passed away at the age of 92 years.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 65 years, Florence, and lovingly remembered by his children and their families; Donna (Dave) Fife, Mervin (Donna) Robertson, Gail (Gerry) Neilon, Joan (Rob) Kennedy, Carole (Mark) Beauliua; his sister, Romelda Judd; brother, Jack Robertson; and sister, Gloria Bayne.

He was predeceased by his father, Jim; mother, Lyla; bothers, Loy and Leon; and sister, Joyce Leask.

Larry was very proud of the fact that, with the exception of the last three weeks before his passing, he lived his whole life on the farm where he was born. This was accomplished with the support of his daughter Carole and her family in later years.

Growing up, he took part in the family’s farm work, having to quit school after finishing grade eight to help out when his brother Loy was in the war and his dad was having health problems.

He went on to buy the land from his dad in order to continue to farm it and raise his own family. He grew grain and hay and raised purebred Herefords. When he decided the purebred business wasn’t for him, he started a commercial herd. Over the years, he milked cows and raised pigs, chickens, beef and vegetables to feed the family.

He loved to be outdoors, and enjoyed pitching and later coaching for Dog Pound in the local baseball league. He also spent time hunting, fishing, trapping and rodeoing. In retirement, he took up growing tomatoes and cucumbers in his greenhouse, woodworking and golfing.

During his last few weeks on earth, Dad received so much wonderful care from the staff at both the Peter Lougheed Centre and Bethany Didsbury and was very grateful, as is his family.

There will be a celebration of Larry’s life held at the Cremona Community Hall on Friday, August 11th at 2:00pm.

If anyone wishes to make a memorial donation in Larry’s name, they can do so at either Alzheimer's Society of Alberta alzheimer.ca or Royal Canadian Legion (Cremona) Branch 172 legion.ca

Dear Florence and family, Romada, Jack and Gloria was so sad to hear about Larry, we had so much fun at the golf course and other functions we will always cherish those times. The cups of coffee and many laughs won't be forgotten. There home always made you feel, that you were glad you stopped in. There is nothing better in the world then family and good friends, and were so glad you were are. Sorry didn't make it today but just saw this.

What I remember most about Larry is his quiet friendliness. Also how he could quickly burst into laughter at something that he found funny. His laughter was genuine and contagious. Always enjoyed visiting with him at family gatherings because conversation with him was easy.
A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure of chatting with him at the Bethany and thought it was so cute as he referred to my dad as “Bobby “ .
I think Larry had a great life living on his farm always surrounded by his loving family. He was loved and cared by those that knew him and will be sorely missed.
With deepest condolences, Laurie and Jim
