Robert Michael Begg

Robert Michael (Mike) Begg passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the age of 87 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Eileen; three daughters, Carol Begg, Rosemarie Begg, Bonnie Begg Russell; five stepchildren, Glen (Lorea) Anderson, Laura (Gil) Radtke, Kimberlee DeJong, Kory DeJong, Melanie DeJong; many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Catherine Patricia Duffy; father, James Begg; brothers, Brian and Raymond; and the love of his life, Fay Begg. His brother Billy (William) passed one day after Michael, on January 26th.

Mike was born in Perth, Scotland before the beginning of World War II. His family moved to Glasgow where he completed school and became a very proud Glaswegian. His life joys included: his family first and foremost, soccer (and all sports), running the Boston Marathon and other marathons, travelling, cheering on the Glasgow Celtics, and his faith, being an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mike’s first job after he graduated school was a phone installer before coming to Canada. Upon his arrival in Canada, he became a telephone engineer for the Alberta Government Telephone Company (which would later become Telus) in Grand Prairie, Peace River and Drumheller. Papa (Mike) was the proudest father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was present at every opportunity with a smile and laughter that brought joy to all, endless stories to tell, songs to sing and play on his guitar and bagpipes. He spent the last few decades of his life travelling, climbing mountains, running marathons and Scottish dancing well into his 70’s and 80’s.

A memorial service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Drumheller, AB (1455 4 Ave NW ) on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 1:00pm. All are welcome to attend.
