Ronald F. Cooper

February 17th, 1930 - August 3rd, 2025
Ronald F. Cooper

Ron passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2025 in Calgary. He was born in Calgary to parents, Frank and Lucienne and was an older brother to Larry, Ken, and Bob.

After graduating from Crescent Heights, Ron started his career with Calgary Power Ltd. (now Trans Alta) in 1949 and was transferred to Edmonton in 1954. One of his coworkers introduced him to Joyce Lien and they were married in 1955 and raised five children together. He was transferred back to Calgary in 1972. He continued to work with TransAlta until he retired in 1989 after 40 years.

In his retirement Ron and Joyce travelled down to Mesa, AZ for the winter months and spent time golfing, getting together with other retirees, friends and family. Ron had a passion for golf and along with a group of 7 friends created the Super 8. They even had a trophy made for their annual tournament. Ron was lucky enough (or good enough) to have his name on the trophy 13 times between 1968 and 2009. Their favourite places to play were Jasper, Golden, and Radium. Ron was a member of the Elks (Winston) Golf and Country Club for 20 yrs in Calgary as well.

Ron is lovingly remembered by his children, Brian (Paulette), Donna (Jim), Darrell (Cayley), Randy (Traci), Glenn; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and his brother, Bob. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Joyce; his brothers, Larry and Ken; and son-in-law, Don.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of the Cranston West floor at Seton Age Care for their care of Ron over the last 10 years. As well, we would like to thank Debbie Dunwell for the time she spent visiting dad.  He loved his time singing and playing games with her.

Anyone wishing to make a donation on behalf of Ron may do so to Alzheimer Calgary www.alzheimercalgary.ca. There will be a private family service at a later date.

On behalf of the Johnson family we are so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. Our dad and mom loved the company of Ron, and of course dad held the "Super 8" golf tournament as a highlight on his calendar. When our dad passed, I found many of the records from the tourney and Ron was a consistent winner. Sadly, Alzheimer's hit both of them late in life. I hope all of you are cherishing the fun moments and saluting your father's memory. Take care.
