Roy Mackenzie

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Roy Edward Mackenzie. He passed away peacefully after a long illness on Friday, May 29, 2026 at 89 years of age.

From his early childhood he was active, resilient, and energetic, so trying several different types of work before becoming a welder was no surprise. After entering that trade, he travelled extensively across the western provinces and into Ontario for work. As a result, many enduring friendships were established along the way. During the latter part of his career, he inspected for the major oil and gas companies on pipeline and plant projects similar to those he had welded on.

Roy had a pilot’s licence and enjoyed flying small aircrafts but in later years he happily boarded the larger aircraft for family trips. He was charitable and had a remarkable ability to fix almost anything and was a dedicated family man always with the practical joke or puzzle to solve for the young.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Leila; son, Kevin; daughter, Colleen; grand daughters, Christina and Carah; also, his brother, Ross (Wanda); sister-in-law, Liz; and many other nieces, nephews and their families. Roy was pre-deceased by his father, Roderick “Roddy”; mother, Jessie “Lorene”; brother, Gordon; and sister-in-law, Marlene.

Roy will forever be cherished, and we wish to express our gratitude for the kindness evidenced in thought and deed throughout his illness and now at this time.

Donations in Roy’s Memory can be made to, The Mustard Seed, www.theseed.ca, The War Amps, www.waramps.ca, or the Airdrie United Church.

Our deepest condolences on the passing of Roy.
He was a lovely man and a great neighbour.

We still have the masking tape message that originally he put by the gas tank of our sports car— “Sharon and Ken newlyweds-congratulate them” It has been attached to the inside of the glove box since 1979 and we don’t drive that car without checking to see it every time.
Godspeed Roy.
