Ruby Lepp

Ruby Sarah Lepp, passed away peacefully at the Hawthorne Assisted Living facility in Cochrane, AB on Monday, September 25, 2023 at the age of 91.

Ruby was born in Broderick, SK to Goodman and Alice Derdall on June 21, 1932. She had two brothers, Mervyn, the eldest, and Edward (Eddie her “kid brother”). She met Gordon Lepp and they married on June 30, 1956 in Saskatoon, SK.

Ruby and Gordon resided in Saskatoon for a few years where they welcomed their first two sons, Ron and Rick, to the family. Soon after Rick’s birth, they moved to Calgary, where Gordon was employed in the trucking business while Ruby looked after the boys. Two more sons were born, Rennie and Greg, and they soon realized the boys needed more space to grow up. Ruby and Gordon purchased an acreage near Chestermere, and then in 1972, moved to an acreage at Millarville. This was where they made their home, until Gordon’s passing in 2007. Ruby stayed on the acreage until her health began to deteriorate. She then moved to assisted living in Cochrane in 2021.

Ruby was an excellent homemaker for her family – always having fresh-baked treats for all to enjoy, as well as big meals to feed her family. She loved to garden, planting and tending a large vegetable garden every year as well as cultivating several types of her favourite flower, geraniums. She enjoyed sewing and crafts as well. Ruby and Gordon were inseparable in all aspects of their life. They enjoyed their horses, being involved in the Calgary Stampede Old-Timer’s Association and their church. They travelled with their 5th wheel trailer to various spots and just enjoyed life together.

Ruby’s faith in the Lord Jesus Christ sustained her throughout her life, especially when their son, Rennie, passed away in 2006 and then Gordon in 2007.

Ruby will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Ron (Debbie), Rick (Shawna), Greg; daughter-in-law Rona; grandchildren, Marin Lepp, Nicole (Craig) Colpoys, Ben (Victoria) Lepp, Robyn Lepp, Curtis (Arika) Anderlich; and great-grandchildren, Sidonie, Harlan and Renny. Ruby was predeceased by her parents Goodman and Alice Derdall; and her brothers  Mervyn and Edward.

 A graveside service was held for immediate family on September 30, 2023 at the Foothills Cemetery in Diamond Valley, Alberta.
