In Memory
Sanat Kumar Das
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our father, Sanat Kumar Das, on Saturday, October 19, 2024 in Red Deer, Alberta at the age of 89.
Sanat was born in Khulna, India on October 15, 1935 as the youngest of three children. The family later moved to Calcutta where he spent most of his childhood. At the age of 21 he left India to attend university in the UK where he obtained a degree in mechanical engineering from West Ham College. He then began his career in London. In 1963 he married his first wife, Erika and they had two children, Robi and Monica. In 1981 he married his second wife, Marta, and in February of 1982 they emigrated to Canada with Robi and Monica, first settling in Calgary, Alberta. In February of 1983 he and Marta welcomed their daughter Angelica. Throughout the 80s, Sanat worked in many different parts of Alberta in the oilfield industry to support his family, ultimately returning to Calgary in 1989, which became home for many decades. Sanat became an avid Calgary Flames fan during that time. He was also a cinephile who loved introducing his favourite films to his grandchildren. One of his greatest lifelong passions was the game of bridge, which he spent countless hours playing, studying and even began writing a book about. Sadly, in 2020 he lost his beloved wife Marta. After her passing, he moved to Red Deer where he resided at Michener Extendicare until his own passing.
Sanat is lovingly remembered by his son Robi, and his daughters, Monica and Angelica; and granddaughters, Ainsley and Jordan; grandson, Tate, as well as his great-grandson, Nolan and great-granddaughter, Layton.
He will be remembered lovingly and will forever be in our hearts. Special thanks to the staff at Michener Extendicare who care for their residents with such kindness and dignity.
