In Memory
Shawn Casey

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we, the family of Shawn Casey, announce his passing at the age of 54 on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 after a long hard fought battle with colon cancer.
Shawn is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife and the love of his life, Jenn (nee Martin); their children, Kolton Casey, Jordan and Ashley Meloche, Kaylen Meloche and fiance Joshua Pember.
A very proud and honored Pow Pow to Maverick and Memphis Meloche.
Shawn will be fondly remembered by his extended family, including his mother and father-in-law, Marie Martin, and Vern Meloche; his brothers and sisters in law, Renee and John Procenko, Debbie and Kevin DeBernardi, Lori Martin and Wayne Hendrican, and Jason and Tisha Martin. Shawn also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and JoAnn Casey; and his father-in-law, Buzzy Martin.
Shawn will be deeply missed by his buddies Jeremy Fuller, Sean Hasson and his yearly hunting crew.
In 2006, Shawn accepted a position as a heavy-duty mechanic and moved to Alberta, eventually settling in Airdrie just north of Calgary. Shawn and Jenn made countless trips to their happy place the mountains, where they would drive around looking for wildlife for hours and almost always finding success. For 20 years they shared this passion together, and every wildlife sighting was as exciting as the first.
Shawn could not wait for friends and family to visit Alberta so he could show off the breathtaking mountain scenery and roaming wildlife while trying to convince everyone to move there too.
He had true passion for the outdoors, creating countless memories with family on camping trips, hunting with his sons and friends, fishing, listening to country music, attending rodeos, and watching Nascar on Sundays. Sadly, he never got to witness his beloved Toronto Maple Leaf’s win another Stanley Cup.
Shawn loved watching the Calgary Stampeders, the Calgary Flames and the Toronto Blue Jays, but his greatest pride came from watching all of his boys compete in Muay Thai. He attended most of their tournaments and special events, often when he was not feeling well, putting on a brave face and pushing through just to watch the kids he loved so much enjoy their sport.
Shawn had a very witty sense of humor. Any chance he had to poke fun, he would. Shawn had a collection of one liners that seemed to be stuck on repeat. But beneath all the teasing and laughter was a man who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it; He always made sure those around him were taken care of.
With that big lug came an even bigger heart, a beautiful smile and endless love. His determination to stay with his family and fight for more time was evident right to the very end.
Shawn also leaves behind his furry kids, Trigger, Bear, Bubba Kitty and his loyal companion Nurse Hank, who lay by his side day in and day out, always making sure Shawn was okay.
We are incredibly grateful for his cousin Brian, who has helped tremendously with Shawn's care over the past few months, the care and compassion provided by our Palliative Home Team nurses, Shauna, Marley, and Jay. A special thank you to the nurses Maria and Krystal on unit 95 at the Arthur J.E Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre who showed such compassion and care in Shawn's final journey.
At Shawn's request, there will be no service. He wished to be remembered by family and friends exactly how they knew him, through the memories, laughter, and moments shared together throughout his life.
If you wish to make a donation in Shawn's memory, please do so to the Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation.
