It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley Honecker announce her sudden passing on Sunday, November 27, 2022 from the effects of a severe stroke. 

Shirley May Saunders was born on April 11, 1954, to parents, Bert and Hazel Saunders. She grew up on the family farm West of Lacombe in then Lincoln District, attending school in Lacombe. She learned to milk cows, loved the outdoors and all animals from a young age.

Shirley was her dad’s right hand helper growing up. She continued to love the farm life, giving hundres of cats a home and she knew most of the cows by name. Shirley was born with a beautiful voice and music was always part of her life – directing and singing in church choirs, and sharing her talent at many weddings, funerals and church services. She sang tenor for 15 years in a Red Deer Babrbershop Chorus. Shirley will be remembered as hard working and always willing to help anyone.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 18 years, Marvin; her children, Clint (Stacey), Aaron (Alena), Kirk (Janice), Rehina (Jill), Quentin (Tia), Kelly (Dave) and Mallory (Travis); sister, Lois (Dave; father-in-law, Helmet; sister-in-law, Mavis; brother in law, Deryl. She will affectionately remembered by her 11 grandchildren and a host of friends. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Bert Saunders and Hazel Lister; stepfather, Richard Lister; as well as grandparents.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Lacombe Memorial Centre on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 1:00PM with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Shirley’s name made be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or an Animal shelter of your choice.
