Tom
Paton passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023 just shy of turning 90 years
old. Lovingly called “Papa” by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he is
lovingly remembered by his wife, Joyce; his daughter, Teri (Conrad); son, David
(Mercy); grandsons, Justin (Melissa) and Chad; great-grandsons, Luke, Carter,
and Liam.
He
was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Margaret Paton; his brother, Robert;
his older sister, Jean Fierheller and her husband, Gordon; his twin sister,
Betty Wells and her husband, Alex; and his daughter-in-law, Ivette Paton.
Tom
was born in Lethbridge but spent much of his childhood in the Crowsnest Pass.
He loved to tell stories of how he drove to do deliveries for his father’s
bakery at an age that would not be allowed today. Tom’s interests, career, and
passions took him to many places. He met and married his wife Joyce in
Edmonton. After that, they lived in a number of places including Los Angeles,
San Diego, and Calgary. Tom loved working in sales and spent most of his career
in the institutional and industrial cleaning and maintenance sector. In the
early years with their children, Tom and Joyce discovered the joy of camping in
an R.V. There are many memories of camping in the mountains with the children,
grandchildren, and then great-grandchildren. After they retired, Tom and Joyce
enjoyed travelling: so much so that they sold their apartment and took up
living in their fifth wheel trailer full time. Their favorite places were Las
Vegas and Kelowna, but home was always considered to be Calgary. In 2016, Tom
and Joyce settled in Airdrie to be closer to the grandkids and great-grandkids.
A
gathering of family for a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 119 - 14 St NW #100, Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6.
