Wilfred Nicholas Feist

Wilfred Feist, of Airdrie, AB, passed away on Monday, June 9th at the age of 67, after a difficult battle with cancer.

Wilf was born on Sept 8th, 1957 the youngest son of John and Christena Feist in Unity, Sk. He moved to Calgary, AB in 1975 where he started his career in carpenter at SAIT.

In 1977 he married Aileen Hartman. They build their own house in Airdrie, AB and raised their two daughters, Holly and KD. Wilf was blessed with a grandson, Jacob.

Wilf attained his interprovincial journeyman carpenter ticket and eventually ran his own construction business for more than 20 years. During that time, he took great pride in cabinet building and installation and became one of the few installers of AGA cookers in Western Canada in 1988 and serviced them until 2023.

Wilf’s passion was “his 3 girls”, grandson, family and friends. He enjoyed tinkering in his shop, camping, card & board games, traveling, and volunteering when possible.

He was a proud 4th degree Knight of Columbus and served as Grand Knight in 2003/2004. He believed in the Catholic faith and was honoured to be part of the mission to Tanzania to build windmills that gave water to the people in the area.

Wilf was predeceased by his parents John and Christena and his brother Lawrence.

Wilf is lovingly remembered by his loving wife, Aileen; his cherished daughters, Holly and KD; as well as his beloved grandson, Jacob; his brothers, Ray Feist, Jim (Barb) Feist, Tom (Vicki) Feist, Jerry (Cindy) Feist and Dave Feist; along with numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.

A Memoiral Mass will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Airdrie, AB on Saturday, June 21, 2025 @ 1 PM with Fr Thomas Vadassery celebrant. Eulogy and a lunch will follow.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Wilf’s honour to the Airdrie Hospice Society, https://www.airdriehospice.ca/donate or the Airdrie Food Bank, https://www.airdriefoodbank.com/donatefunds

We’re very sad to hear about the passing of Wilf. We was truly a wonderful person and a dedicated Knight. His calm demeaner and thoughtful responses were certainly some of his many wonderful qualities. It was always a pleasure to work with him on projects at the church and catering events at the community hall. I was fortunate to follow him as Grand Knight for the Airdrie K of C Council. Wilf has definitely left us far too soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with Aileen and the family at this difficult time. May he rest in eternal peace with the Lord.

SK Wilfred Feist was an Honorary Life member of the Knights of Columbus Airdrie Council 8045 & SK John Timmermans Assembly 2632, Airdrie. We have know Wilf & Aileen for over 30 years since moving to Airdrie. I was proud to have him as friend and brother Knight. Some of my memorable times with Wilf was always when building things around the Parish. Wilf has served St. Paul’s Parish over the years as commentator & proclaimer. But using his skills as a contractor, he was helpful during the addition to the church, giving advice, etc. (2004-2006) He was instrumental in the construction of the Exterior Stair Enclosure (2008) that accessed the basement and with the demolition of the old rectory and construction renovations to the New Chapel (2010). He assisted with the installation of the Acoustical ceiling panels in the Church Hall (2010). He also assisted and co-ordinated the installation of the Stain Glass windows, done by parishioner Leon Ramler, throughout St Paul’s Church (2012 to 2020). He always was a dedicated Knight and supportive in all that our founder Blessed Michael McGivney envisioned for the Order. Wilf served our Order of the Knights of Columbus exceptionally well during his active years as a Knight. May You Rest in Peace my friend.

My deepest sympathy and condolences to you and your family on the loss of your wonderful dad, husband, brother-in-law and friend. I didn't know Mr. Feist that long but over the few months I visited him while he was in the hospital to support my dear friend and Wilf's daughter Holly, I saw a man who was dearly loved and respected by his friends and family.
Despite being in constant pain and discomfort he displayed tremendous courage and strength while trying to navigate his cancer journey. His humor and wit brought smiles and laughter to the faces of his loved ones during this stressful time.
It was truly admirable.
I was happy to hear he got to enjoy a glass of scotch before he left. Cheers to you Wilf! I hope you're helping Jesus build something useful in heaven and that he's a good apprentice. Lol.
P.S. Stay out of trouble up there. :)
