William Clapperton

William (Bill) Richard Clapperton was born September 26, 1945, in Westlock, AB. He was the youngest child of Richard and Hilda Clapperton with two older sisters, Virgina and Janet. They lived in Tawatinaw, AB until he was seven and then moved to Airdrie, AB.

Bill graduated from George McDougall High School in 1964. He went to SAIT to get his Heavy-Duty Mechanic ticket. He worked in Whitecourt for Dome Petroleum before he returned home to farm with his dad. In 1970, he purchased a quarter section, although he was unable to acquire more land to farm full-time. He worked for the City of Calgary for a short time before taking a job at the Crossfield Gas Plant, where he worked for most of his life. After retiring from there, he worked for Tri-Energy.

On April 6, 1974, Bill married the love of his life, Cheryl. Together they built a strong and loving family raising their three sons, Kyle, Todd and Aaron and later welcoming three lovely daughters-in-law, Devan, Michelle and Melissa into the family. Enjoying the love and laughter of two grandchildren, Abriela and Max, made his day.

In 1990, the family moved from Airdrie and built a house on the farm. Bill and Cheryl were there for 35 years.

Bill found great joy in the outdoors: waterskiing, boating, downhill skiing, camping, and sharing those moments with the people he loved. Family vacations meant the most to him.

Bill will be remembered for his quiet strength, hardworking spirit, love of family and friends and his faith in Jesus Christ, his Lord and Saviour. He passed peacefully on May 6, 2026 and will be deeply missed.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Town & Country Centre, 275 Jensen Drive NE, Airdrie, AB, on May 22, 2026 at 2:30 PM.
